Self-Discipline

September 17th, 2009

You can do anything if you set your mind to it. Have you heard that before? Well, it’s true.

Setting your mind to something starts with self-discipline and self-motivation. Without that, you have no fuel to energize yourself to meet the goals you set. Without any action there will be no reaction. I know, Newton’s Third Law of Motion: For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. (more…)

What is Love?

August 21st, 2009

Powerful and undoubtedly strong, love is an amazing emotion. In my opinion, the best description of love can be found in the Bible.

Corinthians 13
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Read that over and over and when you’re finished, read it again. What does it tell you? How does it make you feel? Every time I read that passage I feel uplifted.

My loving and beautiful Mother sent me an e-mail today with the subject of “This will bring happy tears to your eyes”. After reading it I was definitely choked up. My throat closed a bit and I started tearing up… only for it to be interrupted by the idea of me posting it here for you all to enjoy. (more…)

As we grow older and mature, we do our best to take matters into our own hands. However, not everything we want can be handled by us alone. We ask for help. (more…)

Bad Luck

Bad luck, we all have it. Without it, we would not have any good luck. I have heard people say “If it wasn’t for bad luck, I wouldn’t have any luck at all.” Where’s the positive thinking?

Life’s a gamble. There’s no way around it. We need to take risks.Yes you can play it safe and dodge those risks, but then you decrease your chances of gaining something rewarding. You will never know good luck unless you take the risk of bad luck. (more…)

Compassion: Understanding Suffering

June 28th, 2009

An important part of life is compassion. We all know what passion is, right? Passion is a powerful or compelling emotion or feeling. Without passion, life would seem like a black hole. Compassion is somewhat similar. We use the deep emotion and display its affection towards another person who is stricken by misfortune and we feel a strong desire to alleviate the suffering. (more…)

Thinking Before you Speak

June 23rd, 2009

Often times people run into a situation where they wish they thought before they spoke. Have you encountered such an incident? Afterwards you may feel remorse and regret for saying what you said, knowing how it would affect the other party… but you said it anyway. Why? What did you gain from it? Or maybe you just made a mistake.

Most of us are given a “filter”. This “filter” protects us from saying stupid, asinine things. A thought will go through your head and as this thought makes its way to your mouth, the “filter” will make a last-minute decision on whether or not you should say this. Most of the time it works. When it doesn’t, be prepared to ask forgiveness. (more…)
