The Power of Kindness

I wanted to share a personal story of mine.

Yesterday I went to the post office to ship a D-CoT t-shirt for one of my members. I approached the desk to make the purchase. I reached into my shorts for my wallet and my wallet was not there. I left it at home!

I told the lady behind the counter I don’t have my wallet and that I would have to drive home to get it. She said “OK” and was going to hold onto the package. Right before I left, a woman waiting in line behind me walked up and said “I’ll pay for this”. I was SHOCKED. She said, “Just remember to do this for someone else when they are in this situation. Someone helped me, and so I know how it can be.”

I told her I definitely will. I will always remember to “pay it forward”.

The shipping was $3 and change, but the random act of kindness was priceless.

Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear and the and the blind can see.

Stepping Out

November 6th, 2010

We like to do what makes us comfortable. We feel safer that way. You may ask “Why do something out of the ordinary if it’s going to put me in an awkward situation?”. Instead you should ask yourself, “Why not?”.  When taking that chance and stepping out of that comfort zone, you will be amazed at what you can find. (more…)

What is Love?

Powerful and undoubtedly strong, love is an amazing emotion. In my opinion, the best description of love can be found in the Bible.

Corinthians 13
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Read that over and over and when you’re finished, read it again. What does it tell you? How does it make you feel? Every time I read that passage I feel uplifted.

It’s the Thought that Counts

August 7th, 2009

My loving and beautiful Mother sent me an e-mail today with the subject of “This will bring happy tears to your eyes”. After reading it I was definitely choked up. My throat closed a bit and I started tearing up… only for it to be interrupted by the idea of me posting it here for you all to enjoy. (more…)

Ask for Nothing

July 17th, 2009

Most of us like to be able to handle things on our own. As we grow up we depend on our parents to take care of us until it is time to “leave the nest”. As we grow older and mature, we do our best to take matters into our own hands. However, not everything we want can be handled by us alone. We ask for help. (more…)

Compassion: Understanding Suffering

June 28th, 2009
Posted by steve

An important part of life is compassion. We all know what passion is, right? Passion is a powerful or compelling emotion or feeling. Without passion, life would seem like a black hole. Compassion is somewhat similar. We use the deep emotion and display its affection towards another person who is stricken by misfortune and we feel a strong desire to alleviate the suffering. (more…)
