Jealousy: The Vice that Gives no Pleasure

Everyone gets jealous. Some people are more jealous than others. You can’t help the way you feel when a situation presents itself that makes you feel that way. However; being aware of how your reaction is seen by the other party will help you control it.

Jealousy doesn’t necessarily apply to our significant others, it also applies to family. If your kindergartner comes home telling you how much she loves her teacher, you get jealous. Your mother tells your other sibling how proud she is of them, you get jealous. Your friend recently got promoted in their job, you get jealous. Now on to your partner. (more…)

Long Distance Love

When it comes to long distance, most people think phone calls and how much it will cost to call their loved one or friend. I have been in a long distance relationship for 6 months and never did I think it would become this difficult. We are roughly 1,000 miles away from each other.

At first it wasn’t so bad and I believe it was because we were still getting to know one another. Granted it’s only been 6 months, but in that short amount of time we got really close and fell in love. We’ve been to Disney World, Universal Studios and enjoyed the night life together. We’ve also enjoyed quiet times and the simple things like movies and walks.

Beautiful People

People want to be beautiful. Right? I mean, don’t we all want to be attractive to others? I see people with money spend so much of it on ways to make them more appealing. Today I came across a very powerful quote that sums up what a beautiful person really is.

The most beautiful people we have known are those who have known defeat, known suffering, known struggle, known loss, and have found their way out of the depths. These persons have an appreciation, a sensitivity, and an understanding of life that fills them with compassion, gentleness, and a deep loving concern. Beautiful people do not just happen.

Your Life Has a Purpose

What do you want to be when you grow up?  I am still asking myself that question.  It use to mean, what do you want your profession to be.  Now when I ask myself that question I change it a bit.  What is your purpose in life?  Some people spend a lifetime searching for their purpose.  While others know exactly what their purpose is.  Your purpose can be simple in nature, such as changing the mood of people around you.  Your purpose can be performed on a grand scale, such as rallying communities to support a cause.  Either way, your purpose is important in changing the way people think.

Chance Encounters

I have the luxury of living close to the ocean and I am able to enjoy the the waves whenever I feel the need.  During the early fall, while weather was still warm and tourists all went home, I sat on the beach and watched the waves.  During one of my trips to the beach I noticed an elderly man with his metal detector wander back and forth on the sand.

As the man approached he began a conversation with a shy hello and commented to me how beautiful the weather was.  I asked him if he found anything of interest with his metal detector.  He said, “Nah, my daughter gave me this to me keep me busy after my wife died last year.”  I replied, “I’m sorry.” (more…)
